Artistic
Journey

II believe that every individual is an artist in his or her own way and should be able to explore creative and expressive interests. I think that learning about art is very important for students because through art, students find interests and skills they never knew they had. I believe that many things that are taught in art become lifelong learning skills. It is my hope that my students will carry with them what they learn from my classes, and that it will help them see art in everyday living. Through D.B.A.E. (Discipline Based Art Eduacation), I will teach students that art is everywhere, from the clothes they wear, to the buildings they walk in, to the famous artwork that they will be able to recognize.

Through my units and lessons, I want to excite students about art and encourage them to go outside the parameters of assignments. I want them to challenge themselves through creative artwork that will always represent who they are. As a teacher, I would like students to always look forward to art classes and be interested in what they are creating in the production, the related history, and the aesthetics of each project.

I also think it is important to teach students how to speak about their artwork and ideas in structured critique. This will help them to not only understand their own work, but to respect the creative work of others. I would like students to leave my class with a love of, or at least an interest in, what they have created and learned. Also, I would like students to realize that art has a universal presence, from the art capitals of the world to the most remote corners of the world.

Teaching is the one occupation that makes all others possible!
